The State funeral of the former President Girma Wolde-Giorgis will be held with various major moments and series of events, the National Coordinating Committee for organizing national farewell announced.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Meles Alem said that various government organs including Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense and Federal Police are working on the farewell that goes along with the ex-president’s noble contribution for his country.
Meles noted that the committee held discussion on yesterday and issued a detailed plan of action concerning the state funeral. In this regard, high-level federal and state authorities as well as diplomatic community have been writing condolence letters in the former president’s home till today.
Tomorrow, the public will bid farewell to the ex-president at Millennium Hall and high-level government officials, diplomatic community as well as family and friends will accompany the corpse to Holy Trinity Cathedral with military honor guard and at casket.
Gun salute will also be given and cannons will be fired for the honor of the ex-president. Noting the committee will inform the updates of the state funeral, Meles said that some roads will be closed to traffic to transport the coffin of the man who served Ethiopia as president from 2001-2013.
