ENDC urges youth to play key role in Nat’l Dialogue

ADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC) has called on the youth to play a significant role in the success of the ongoing national consultation process.

The Commission held a discussion forum yesterday with youth representatives to highlight their role in ensuring the effectiveness of the National Dialogue.

Speaking at the forum, ENDC Chief Commissioner Prof. Mesfin Araya stated that young people can make a substantial contribution to the success of the National Dialogue. He emphasized that the Commission is prioritizing their engagement in the process.

According to Mesfin, youth representatives have actively participated in the agenda collection phase through 14 forums held across the country. As a result, young people have played a major role in submitting proposals to the ENDC, aiming to foster lasting peace through dialogue, either through their organizations or representative structures.

However, he noted that the youth’s role goes beyond submitting agendas. Since young people make up a large portion of the population, they are expected to play a central role in the process to help realize the objectives of the dialogue.

Mesfin pointed out that youth are often the most vulnerable to conflict and war, making their strengthened participation essential to addressing the challenges they face daily.

For his part, Ethiopian Youth Federation Office Head Yihunegn Mohamed emphasized that resolving national issues through dialogue is vital for sustainable peace.

He described the National Dialogue as a golden opportunity for young people to shape their future, stressing that its success depends on the active involvement of all segments of society.

“We are participating in agenda collection, awareness creation, discussions, training, and other activities,” he added.
