Tourists praise Arba Minch’s natural beauty, cultural richness

ARBA MINCH – Sport tourists who have participated in the Great Ethiopian Run in Arba Minch have expressed their amazement at the city’s breathtaking natural scenery and vibrant cultural heritage.

Participants from various countries took part in the final round of the 2025 “Discover Ethiopia Classics” competition, held last Sunday in Arba Minch. The event was organized by the Great Ethiopian Run in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism (MoT).

Belgian runner Tim Fievez described Arba Minch as a “miraculous city,” citing its stunning landscapes and warm hospitality. It was his first visit to the city, and he was particularly impressed by its abundant natural resources and rich cultural experiences.

The cultural music and dances by the lakeside, especially at night near Lake Chamo with a campfire, were unforgettable, Tim told The Ethiopian Herald, adding that the fresh fish dishes and organic coffee were also excellent.

He highlighted the city’s lush greenery and captivating landscapes as key attractions. Tim, who has previously participated in the Great Ethiopian Run events in Addis Ababa and Hawassa, said running in Arba Minch offered a truly unique and scenic experience.

Tim emphasized the importance of training programs to support young athletes but also noted that the Great Ethiopian Run stands out as a joyful event that brings together people of all ages.

Danish participant Therese Bostrup echoed his sentiments, saying the Great Ethiopian Run plays a significant role in promoting sports tourism and enhancing the city’s and the country’s image beyond just supporting athletics.

In addition to the competition, Therese explored Arba Minch and praised its vast tourism potential, highlighting the combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage.

According to her, experiencing Lake Chamo and Lake Abaya was astonishing. However, she suggested that there is a need for stronger promotional efforts to fully realize the benefits of the city’s tourism resources.

Therese also pledged to promote Arba Minch’s tourism offerings upon her return to Denmark.
