
-Ethiopia participates in preparations for upcoming BRICS summit
ADDIS ABABA – The third meeting of BRICS Sherpas and Sous-Sherpas for 2025 officially commenced in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with Ethiopia actively participating in high-level discussions aimed at shaping the agenda of the upcoming BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
The gathering brings together senior representatives from BRICS member states to negotiate the draft BRICS Leaders’ Declaration and deliberate on a wide range of global and regional issues.
During the opening session, the Ethiopian delegation extended its congratulations to Brazil for its effective leadership as Chair of BRICS throughout the year. The delegation also commended the progress made under Brazil’s chairmanship across several priority areas, including global governance, trade, investment and finance, climate change, artificial intelligence, and global health.
Reaffirming its commitment to constructive engagement, the Ethiopian delegation expressed its readiness to work collaboratively with other member states toward building consensus on key matters.
The meeting is expected to continue over the coming days, setting the stage for the Seventeenth BRICS Leaders’ Summit, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro from July 6 to 7, 2025.
