Hora Finfinne to resume after 150 years

ADDIS ABABA – Oromia State Deputy President Shimeles Abdisa vowed as his government would do everything at its disposal to make Irreechaa—the Oromo symbol of peace and unity—one of the prominent festivals in East Africa.

Shimeles said: “Our government is committed to make Irreechaa a festival that at least people in the East Africa would mark owing to its values in symbolizing unity, humanity, peace and interdependence.”

The first Irreechaa-Symbol of Peace and Unity Forum -was held yesterday.

The next five years will see unflinching tasks to promote the festival in the region, he added.

“Our forefathers have sacrificed their lives to hand down the great thanks giving culture over the last 150 years enduring regimes that attempted to demonize Irreechaa. They focused on distracting Oromo values and institutions to win Oromo. Thanks to our forefathers and the

 committed Abbaa Gadas, it has now been receiving its deserved place,” he noted.

Meanwhile, he also announced a plan to construct Gada Complexes in Addis Ababa and other major towns in Oromia State to make Gada System and its institutions better known to the world.

Around six million people are expected to attend the thanks giving festival that will be held at Hora Finfinne in Addis, after a discontinuation for 150 years, and preparations have been finalized to make it peaceful, it was learnt.

The Forum was attended by senior government and state officials, state presidents, political activists, among others.
