Ministry calls for scaling up community-based tourism

DIRE DAWA– The Ministry of Culture and Tourism called for integrated action to scale up community based tourism across the country.

The statement was made here yesterday in connection with the 40th World Tourism Day.

In her message to the attendees of the occasion, Culture and Tourism Minister Hirut kassaw (PhD) said Ethiopia needs to unlock its tourism potentials via making available a wide range of tourist services along with well-developed community -based tourism.

As the country is still at the early stage to exploit the tourism sector, she said: “We should all work together to make the tourism sector as prior economic sector.”

Talking about Dire Dawa’s tourist attractions, she mentioned sport tourism as one of untouched potentials of the city admiration.

She further said Dire Dawa is notable for its origin of athletics and national footballers.

“We are so committed to restore the legendary sport history of Dire Dawa and to attract wide arrays of tourists to this end,” she noted.

For his part the city’s Mayor, Ahmed Muhammad urged all stakeholders to be more committed towards dismantling touristic hurdles in the city.

This year’s celebration of World Tourism Day will give further impetus for the development of tourism industry in the city, he underlined.

“The aim of the celebration is to make the nations’ tourism performances globally compatible and model lessons, said Bizina Alkedir, State Minister at Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Accordingly, the extensive activities are underway to promote the nation’s tourism potentials and inscribe them as one of the world wonders, she indicated.

At the event, colorful display of cultural costume, picture exhibition, and researches were exhibited and presented apart from staging sport competitions, symptoms, exhibitions, researches and visits of historical and cultural centers. This year’s World Tourism Day was marked under the theme: “Tourism jobs; better future for all.”

The day was observed for 32th nationally and for 40th globally. The celebration brought together governmental authorities, experts, and tourist based sectors . Competition of camel riding held on the occasion, it was learnt.
