ADDIS ABABA- “ As Ethiopia is now in all round and multi-sectoral reform, my state visit is being carried out at the right time and the ongoing reform in this beloved country is exemplary to the continent,” said Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of Federal Republic of Germany(FRG). He made the remark yesterday during a Joint Press Conference at National Palace of the FDRE President .
He also said : “Ethiopia and Germany have long rooted relationship, however the qualities of relationship differs time to time, now we are here in order to upgrade the relationship to the advanced level.” Appreciating the ongoing democratic reform process in Ethiopia, President Fran- Walter said that; “We need Ethiopia to be successful in this fast and holistic reform, thus I am here to identify the areas where Germany can provide support.”
The President also said the fast and dramatic peace made between Ethiopia and Eritrea can signal through Africa and has a potential to rebuild Africa’s image, which was assumed as a land of conflict and crisis.” For her part, FDRE President Sahlework Zewde, Germany is a great development partner of Ethiopia, she said adding : “FRG is one of strong member of EU, which actively engaging in multilateral relations, regional and international peacemaking efforts and others.
In addition Germany has huge potential of technology, economy and knowledge, therefore the visit of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has big role in providing supports to our all round ongoing reform and mutual benefits of Investments.” She also indicated that both countries have agreed to boost trade and investment,plus Germany’s giant companies like Volkswagen and others have shown keen interests in investing in Ethiopia and intensifying economic cooperation,she added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed received the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank Walter Steinmer and his delegation. Prime Minister Abiy appreciated the German Government’s long term and consistent technical and vocational support to Ethiopia. He shared the three pillars of the current reforms as being grounded in individuals, ideas and institutions.
Germany President Steinmer for his part acknowledged the elevation of Ethiopia-German relations to reforms cooperation and confirmed the strengthening of these relations.
