-To expand bilateral cooperation with Ethiopia
ADDIS ABABA – President of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, has affirmed her country’s support for Africa’s bid to secure a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), emphasizing the need for fair and inclusive global representation.
During her visit to a Slovenia-sponsored children’s center in Addis Ababa yesterday, President Pirc Musar stated, “We support Africa’s right to a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. That is also why I visited the African Union—to express this commitment directly.”
In addition to her advocacy on the international stage, President Pirc Musar underscored Slovenia’s interest in strengthening bilateral ties with Ethiopia. She highlighted that even modest cooperation projects can yield meaningful impact. “Our small-scale initiatives in Ethiopia not only benefit individuals but also foster stronger economic and development partnerships,” she said.
President Pirc Musar noted Slovenia’s global leadership in beekeeping, with the highest per capita income from the sector. Given the environmental threats facing pollinators, she emphasized Slovenia’s readiness to support Ethiopia in advancing sustainable beekeeping practices.
She also pointed to potential collaboration in advanced technologies. “Slovenia may be small in size, but we have significant capabilities—like our satellite that monitors water body movements. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed interest in such technologies during our meeting,” she revealed.
Highlighting the value of cooperation between countries of different sizes and strengths, the president said, “Though Slovenia has a population of just 2.1 million, partnerships with a populous country like Ethiopia can be mutually enriching.”
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) also shared news of their meeting via social media, noting that he and President Pirc Musar discussed a range of bilateral issues and future areas of collaboration.
As part of her visit, President Pirc Musar toured the Addis Ababa Zoo Park with Mayor Adanech Abiebie. The two leaders also launched a bee farming project designed to serve as a model for local beekeepers and promote environmental awareness.
