Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) with First Lady, Zinash Tayachew and his delegation arrived in South Africa, Johannesburg on Wednesday, August 23 to attend the BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus meeting.
Up on his arrival at the airport, Prime Minister Abiy and his delegation were warmly welcomed by the government of the Republic of South Africa. On its 15th edition, BRICS accepts Ethiopia’s membership request to be effective since January 01,2024.
Ahead of the BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and discussed bilateral issues. The two leaders expressed mutual interest in further strengthening the relations between both countries and commitment to partnership in multilateral platforms.
During the discussion, President Xi Jinping indicated to suspend payments on debt maturing in the period 2023/2024 as part of the common framework agreement.
On the sidelines of the BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus summit in Johannesburg, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) met Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India to discuss on bilateral issues of the two countries. The two leaders agreed on strengthening political cooperation as well as economic cooperation in the areas of agriculture, technology, trade and investments.
