PM Abiy unveils memorial plaque honouring Abebe Bikila in Rome

While visiting Rome this week, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) visited the street of Abebe Bikila there. The Ethiopian long distance runner, Abebe Bikila won the 1960 Olypic Marathon in Rome running with barefoot.

The Italian city of Rome has a street named after him. PM Abiy Ahmed visited Abebe Bikila Street there and unveiled a memorial plaque in Abebe’s honour. PM Abiy and First Lady Zinash Tayachew unveiled the memorial plaque.

“Abebe Bikila is a source of national pride and a national gem. He is a unique athlete that raised the profile of Ethiopia to prominence on the world stage and opened the door for many African athletes. He remains a unique symbol of endurance and invincibility,” PM Abiy said following the visit.

 Ethiopia, Russia agree to enhance cooperation

On the sideline of the second Russia-Africa Summit held in St. Petersburg, a delegation led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) discussed with the Government of Russian federation, led by Vladmir Putin. PM Abiy was warmly received by President Vladimir Putin at the Konstantinovsky Palace and held a bilateral meeting. .

During the discussions, both leaders acknowledged the longstanding and historic relations between the two countries and expressed commitment to enhance trade ties, collaborate in the field of agriculture and manufacturing industries.
