Demeke pins global approach to fight terrorism

ADDIS ABABA- Coordinates joint capabilities and forces is crucial to prevent terrorist groups from reviving, spreading and cutting their communication lines in Africa and the rest of the world, Demeke Mekonnen said, expressing Ethiopia’s firm position on international efforts to eradicate terrorism.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Demeke Mekonnen made the above remark yesterday in the ministerial meeting of the international coalition established to fight terrorism in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

 Demeke noted that countries should work together to prevent terrorist groups from reviving, expanding and cutting off their lines of communication in Africa and the rest of the world. “Ethiopia has a firm stance on the international efforts to eradicate terrorism. Briefing the representatives of member countries of the coalition that was formed to fight global terrorist countries, the Deputy Premier highlighted that Ethiopia is fighting terrorism at home and abroad. “Al-Shabaab continues to be a threat to East Africa and the rest of the world by destroying the lives of innocent citizens and disrupting their daily lives.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the international coalition formed to destroy ISIS terrorist group has 85 member countries including Ethiopia.  The coalition is fighting terrorism in a comprehensive manner, including destroying and breaking the chain of terrorists, thwarting the propaganda of the groups, preventing foreign terrorist group fighters from attacking across the border. It also weakening the capacity of terrorist groups by causing serious damage to the infrastructures they use for their destructive activities.

Upon arrival in Riyadh, Ethiopian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen by Saudi high-level officials.
