ADDIS ABABA – A new E-learning platform, designed to modernize legal training and enhance capacity building across Ethiopia’s justice sector, was officially handed over yesterday to the Federal Law and Justice Institute.
The Institute’s Director Ambassador Degife Bula hailed the platform’s “transformative potential” during the handover ceremony. “The development of an E-learning platform tailored specifically for our judiciary is not just a project—it is a momentous step toward modernizing and strengthening our justice system,” he said, stressing the vital role of digital education in today’s world.
The Ambassador highlighted how the platform will significantly enhance legal training and ensure ongoing professional development for judges, lawyers, and law enforcement personnel nationwide.
Echoing his remarks, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) State Minister Ermias Yemanebirhan celebrated the platform’s successful development as a critical step in building the sector’s institutional capacity. “This initiative reinforces one of the core pillars of institutional development—human resources,” he noted.
Ermias emphasized the platform’s user-friendly, self-paced structure, making it accessible to justice professionals across the country. It is designed to help users sharpen their skills and stay informed about dynamic legal developments. He added that the platform will serve a wide array of professionals, including investigators, prosecutors, assistant judges, registrars, judges, and prison officers at both federal and regional levels.
The State Minister credited the joint efforts of the MoJ, the Federal Supreme Court, and the Federal Justice and Law Institutions for successfully realizing the project. He also thanked the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MoIT) for hosting the system and providing the necessary technological infrastructure.
Both officials called for sustained international cooperation to expand the initiative, develop additional courses, and meet the evolving needs of the judiciary. They underscored the platform’s potential to promote transparency, enhance public trust, and serve as a cornerstone of justice sector capacity building in Ethiopia.
Funded by the European Union and supported by GIZ, the initiative represents a significant stride toward building a more accessible, efficient, and technology-driven justice system in Ethiopia.
