Ensuring sustainable peace, development parliament’s top point of discussion

Peace presupposes tireless efforts and strong commitment. Peace prevails if preceded by exertions towards it. To achieve positive and sustainable peace, the presence of heroes and heroines is a must. Especially, to ensure positive peace, there is a call for taking peaceful initiatives and measures. It is impossible to achieve positive peace using coercive force. We are struggling to achieve positive peace with due commitment. Necessary action is being taken to realize it.

Peace is a relative course. Compared to the situation six months ago, there is a significant progress. The Ethiopian Government is taking necessary action to strengthen the progressive peace and to ensure positive and sustainable peace. Initiatives and efforts are in progress to bring about durable peace.

Peace embraces everyone standing at the forefront in pursuing it. It needs everyone’s commitment and readiness to achieve it. We have to capitalize the current peace initiatives. We need to think about sustaining these efforts even with shortcomings.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D) said while addressing HPR during six months performance report to the parliament

Ethiopia lost a lot due to the war in Northern Ethiopia during the past two years. The wise decision of the Ethiopian Government to end the war through discussion under the umbrella of the African Union was appreciable. Due to the peace following the Pretoria Agreement, our people in Tigray are allowed to taste a breath of fresh air. The decision to end the war and to restore peace helps Ethiopia to win.

The peace initiative was unthinkable without the wise administration and decision of Prime Minister Abiy and his administration. I appreciate the decision and I want to thank Prime Minister Abiy.

Similarly, in different parts of Oromia mainly Western and South parts of the state, there had been instability during the past three years. I want to ask the Ethiopian Government to end this instability and to find peaceful ways by discussing with the combatants in the area. I hope the Federal Government jointly with Oromia Regional State Government would solve the problem and end the deadly conflict in Oromia by initiating new strategy.

Dr. Abdulsemed Hussen, Member of the HPR said during this week’s parliament session.
