The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) is a beacon of compassion and generosity. Since its founding, ERCS has played a critical role in responding to national emergencies. Members of ERCS have made heroic sacrifices in confronting the challenges that Ethiopia has faced regarding its sovereignty.
In a time when international humanitarian support is declining, ERCS must focus on building sustainable capacity to carry out humanitarian work independently. To strengthen its humanitarian efforts and position itself as a continental leader in humanitarian response, the society should concentrate on strategic clarity, increase self-sufficiency, and broaden its membership.
President Taye Aske-Selassie, also the Patron of ERCS, emphasized this during ERCS’s 90th anniversary.
