Enduring peace

Appreciating the vibrant and longstanding relationships between the peoples of Ethiopia and Sudan, we believe that there are various standing mechanisms the two countries can utilize to resolve the border dispute without resorting to conflicts. The Government of Ethiopia is ready to solve the border dispute peacefully and amicably, further calling on the Government of Sudan to refrain from unnecessarily escalating tensions and internationalizing the issue. In connection with the recent incident at the Ethiopia-Sudan common border, the government of Ethiopia believes that the recent incident was orchestrated and organized by the Sudanese military forces in tandem with the TPLF terrorist group.

To give a peaceful resolution to the conflict in the Northern part of Ethiopia, and since peace is in the best interest of the Ethiopian people, the government has shown commitment by taking confidence-building measures. The Government of Ethiopia is committed to ensuring enduring peace in the country, the international community to put pressure on the TPLF to refrain from its provocations for another round of conflict, Deputy PM and FM Demeke Mekonnen.

The government is expressing deeper sentiments of sadness at the recent loss of innocent lives, the barbaric and egregious act by terrorist organizations against the civilian population is greatly condemned. Such acts against fellow Ethiopians are no less than bestial manifestations in their nature and sometimes words do fail no human regardless of the multiple identity groups to which they belong to should be subjected to such inhumane acts yet the very face of terrorism manifests in such ways we understand that there is anger we acknowledge that there is frustration yet anger has got dual features it can be toxic and destructive and on the other hand anger can be a catalyst for productivity if channeled appropriately.

Therefore, what Ethiopia needs in this moment as a country of 110 million is not to fall for the agenda of organized destructive forces it requires a silent majority to actively demonstrate unity where Ethiopia’s enemies are working actively for discord. It requires heated temperaments to cool down and calmly connect the dots of the greater operating context and it requires examining the real culprits lurking in the shadows rather than shooting down those most visible and exposed. Therefore, related to the current peace and security issues with the recent attacks by OLF-Shene on innocent Ethiopians the Ethiopian federal police is currently undertaking investigations for further details on what transpired and how it transpired as we know pockets of the Oromia region where OLF-Shene is terrorizing civilians has been under heavy government-led operations in the past months, particularly following last week’s attack, the defense forces reinforced a response operation against OLF-Shene, Prime Minister’s Office Press Secretary Billene Seyoum.

The government has continued the humanitarian assistance to people in need in the Tigray region. The government has been providing humanitarian assistance to people in difficult situations in Tigray as well as to those affected and displaced by the war launched by the terrorist TPLF in Afar and Amhara regions. More than 2.4 billion Birr aid has been provided by various partners from July 2021 to the end of June alone through the government’s measures to reach the people in need in Tigray, Minister of Government Communication Services Legesse Tulu (PhD).
