Botched were attempts
To put Ethiopia asunder
By driving religious
And ethnic divisive wedges
Among citizens
That harmoniously lived together
Repelling each aggressor.
Drawing from forefathers,
Now most in heaven, every lesson
Love, unity, honesty, integrity
Must feature our identity,
A harmonious Ethiopia
With intact territorial integrity
What is more, sovereignty
As we inherited from forefathers
To subjugation
That preferred death
Development-propped up Ethiopia
To generation next
We have to bequeath.
