Peace mothers’ movement to own legal entity

BISHOFTU– Ministry of peace stated that the ‘Peace Mother’s Movement’ is on its final stage to have a legal entity in the country.

The Ministry’s Peace Building Department Director General Asma Redi told The Ethiopian Herald that the peace mothers have been undertaking various peace fostering activities over the last three years with a view to ensuring peace across the country, and now this peace mother’s movement is in the process of being structurally organized to fully operate peace building activities in an ordered manner.

Also the Ministry’s Women, Children and Youth Affairs Directorate Director Wogayehu Biyadiglign said that various trainings have been offered aimed at building the capacity of peace mothers via exchanging experience and scientific knowledge.

“The training has focused on strengthening mediation, reconciliation, and women leadership potential. Some 18 peace mother trainees from each region attended the training and discussion. Though the number is few, it is a good move as building lasting peace is not an overnight process. After this training the peace mothers are expected to reach the community even to raise awareness of 4,000 people each. Besides, they are free from any political party’s ideology and government pressure,” she said.

Bahira Dessalegn, a peace mother from Southern Nations and Nationalities and peoples State (SNNPR) ,said that more effort is still required to help mothers’ peace building activities continue impacting and lay on unwavering base. Such a promising training and discussion is of significantly useful in building the peace mothers’ capacity.

Genete Tadesse, a peace mother from Bahir Dar ,on her part said the training and discussion provided mothers and other actors with courage in due course of playing their respective roles in building peace among the community through reconciliation, mediating and arbitration.
