Sudan claims Benishangul Gumuz to divert attention

ADDIS ABABA – In the efforts of promoting the hidden Egypt’s agenda that is to destabilize and weaken Ethiopia via supporting anti-peace elements at home and overseas, Sudan has just claimed Benishangul Gumuz state of Ethiopia as its own, said activists.

In an interview with the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA), Media Activist Suleiman Abdella said that the two countries, Egypt and Sudan, together are now working around-the-clock to hold back Ethiopia’s developmental projects. “They are also putting various efforts to thwart the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) project creating different agendas.

The case of Benishangul Gumuz has been raised only to divert attention from the main agenda.” All the ethnic and religious conflicts witnessed since the reform have been instigated and sponsored by Egypt, and Egyptians are supporting the anti-peace elements mainly to dismantle and destabilize Ethiopia, Suleiman said. Egyptians have been providing anti-peace and anti-Ethiopia elements with financial, military, and diplomatic supports in a bid to destabilize the country, he added.

According to him, the Sudanese army took control of the contested area right after the government of Ethiopia turned its face to the law enforcement process in the northern part of the country. The Sudanese army deliberately planned and has been executing the interest of the third party as the Egyptian government is pushing Sudan to engage in a conflict with Ethiopia.

Activist Musa Sheiko on his part said that for the past couple of years Egyptians were supporting anti-Ethiopian activities and instigating conflict in Ethiopia and abroad. The recent border conflict with the government of Sudan is the result of the Egyptian interest mainly to halt the progress of the project. This year Ethiopia has planned to fill the second phase of dam filling despite Egypt and Sudan are shouting loud.

Their ultimate goal of all conspiracies is triggering a civil war in the country and beyond to delay the dam construction, if possible. Egypt security agents and officials have been assisting the anti-peace elements and they are in touch with the leaders of the rebel groups, he noted.
