Nile, we call it Abay at home,
Aba(y) – the father of all the rivers in the nation
Highly valued and interwoven with the inhabitants wellbeing
can be anything we want it to be
It can be a source of conflict or a source of cooperation
It can be a source of conflict
Driven by greed and hatred
Spending millions of dollars on armaments
To kill brothers who drink from the same stream
While millions suffer below the poverty line
And remain open enemies forever
It can be a source of cooperation
As neighbors who drink from the same stream
It can be a good reason to sit around a table
To listen to each other and understand the pain
Count blessings
And build further bridges
Where it is possible to have a complete control
Negotiation is not cherished by all
When doing so is impossible
It is the most preferred way to compromise differences rather
And make a way in which both parties can gain
So is the case over the River Abay (Nile)
Rejection of win-win will inevitably lead to lose-lose
None of us would even sustain what we’ve already had
[Man] I want you to remember
Days of zero sum game are over
Whether your choice is to make it a source of cooperation or conflict
Ethiopia has always been stretching hands for peaceful coexistence
Accepts the international principles of reaching mutual agreement
