Poli (trik) cians

After reading last week’s interview with Jerry Langdon from the garden of poetry under the Art and Culture Column a reader posed a question “What are prompts?”

Noting that many could have asked themselves the same question, a poet myself, I find it due to practically demonstrate how to write a poem given the prompt words monster, disaster, repugnant, aberrant and psychopath.

I ventured to indite the following poem which garnered me feedbacks after posted

on The Garden’s Facebook. Seeing the example try it yourself.

Poli(trik)ians

Touting about

To -democracy-

taking path

Many a psychopath

In the acid-test of integrity

Proves aberrant

Exuding a political stench

To development-and- democracy

Thirsty repugnant.

A phony politician

Has a double face

Which s/he changes from

Place to place

To sweet talk

Citizens sugar-coated

Ideals to embrace.

But monster’s follies

Is sure own talks to efface.

Many a political monster

Wrecks his/her share of disaster

When reason to fantasy

Cedes place,

But soon

S/he will be

Stripped of grace.

I also posted it on www.hellopoetry.com blog and www.allpoetry.com.I got the following feedback.YES!

“May they all be exposed and stripped of grace.

Amen.” Cooneckthood.

Ken doll – I liked the ending being stripped of grace. Grace I think has always been one of my favorite words. Nicely written.By Ken doll from allpoetry.
