Premier: Eid al-Adha values key to building prosperous Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has emphasized that the core values of sacrifice and obedience, which are central to the celebration of Eid al-Adha, hold great significance for building a united and prosperous Ethiopia.

In a message shared on his official social media platform on the occasion of the 1446th Eid al-Adha, the Prime Minister reflected on the deeper meaning of the Islamic holiday, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, which commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.

“Eid al-Adha teaches us that a nation is built through sacrifice by giving up what we hold dear for a greater purpose,” said the Premier. “The past generations have shown us this through their sacrifices for freedom and sovereignty. Their selflessness gave our country historical and spiritual value.”

Drawing parallels between religious devotion and civic responsibility, Abiy highlighted that the same spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim is essential in national development. “To gain something greater another sacrifice, another reward we must first be willing to give of ourselves,” he noted.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of National Dialogue as a peaceful and inclusive platform where Ethiopians can come together to understand one another, resolve differences, and build collective progress.

“Our National Dialogue is the means through which we communicate, share ideas, and feel each other’s pain. It is where we say, ‘You know me, and I know you,’” he said, calling on citizens to reaffirm their commitment to unity and mutual understanding during the Eid celebration.

“As we mark Eid al-Adha, let us remember the sacrifices of our forefather/mothers and continue to strengthen the national platforms that bring us together,” he concluded.
