PM Abiy discusses with Somali President in Mogadishu
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held bilateral discussions in Mogadishu, a continuation of their previous discussions. The two leaders had discussed in Addis Ababa, parallel to the African Union 38th Summit and also before the AU Summit, while the Somali President visited Addis Ababa on the 11th of January 2025.
After appreciating the warm welcome he received in Mogadisu, PM Abiy said that he discussed with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud covering key areas, such as peace and security, economy, diplomacy and joint infrastructural development between the two neighboring countries.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) arrived in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, on Thursday morning for a day official state visit. PM Abiy arrived in Mogadishu along with his government delegation to discuss bilateral and regional issues with the Government of Somalia.
Upon his arrival at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, PM Abiy and his delegation received a warm welcome by President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
– Reinvigorating diplomatic relations for regional integration
A joint communiqué released following the two leaders’ discussion revealed that PM Abiy’s visit to Somalia reinforces the normalization of bilateral relations between the two nations. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation for mutual benefits.
The two leaders agreed to enhance diplomatic, economic, and social cooperation of the two countries aiming at mutual development and with a shared vision for regional stability and prosperity.
Following the two leaders discussion at Villa Somalia, PM Abiy underlined the role of strengthening bilateral relations among the countries of the Horn of Africa to ensure regional integration and to exploit the rich resource potential of the region for mutual development of the countries and propensity of the people of the region.
