Bazars, expos enhance social interaction: Minister

ADDIS ABABA – Trade bazars and expos would have crucial importance in enhancing social interaction besides their role in creating markets for locally produced and imported commodities, Culture and Tourism Minister Dr. Hirut Kassew said.

The Minister’s remark came on Saturday while opening the 25 day-long Eyoha New Year Expo at the Addis Ababa Exhibition Center. Dr. Hirut stated that events such as bazars and expos are beneficial to promote people’s culture and pave the way for sections of the community to know one other thereby sustaining the age-old peace of the country. The platforms would also provide opportunities for business to business networking between people with diverse cultures.

According to her, the availability of cultural products of different ethnic groups in the exhibition avails the opportunity to the public to cherish Ethiopia’s much-acclaimed peaceful coexistence and ensure sense of brotherhood and sisterhood thus strengthen common values.

Addis Ababa Trade and Industry Bureau Head with the Rank of Deputy Mayor Engineer Endawek Abete said on his part that bazars and expos are instruments that enable suppliers to familiarize with consumers and better serving the latter’s interests. The exhibitions have also significance to ensure healthy and fair trade competitionand control uneconomic inflation.

Noting the paramount importance bazars and expos have in sustaining national unity, the official reaffirmed the City Administration’s commitment to support such events. During the occasion, owner of Eyoha Entertainment and Event Sirak Wassihun donated 12,000 exercise books and 2,000 point pens in a view to taking part in the Addis Ababa City Government’s initiative to support public students.
