Kingdom Linen to commence full production next year

ADDIS ABABA – Kingdom (Ethiopia) Linen PLC said it has finalized preparation to commence full production of linen yarn products during the first quarters of 2020.

Chan Zhang, Vice General Manager of Kingdom Linen PLC told members of the press recently the company has completed all construction work for main structure at Adama industrial park, and started machinery installation. The construction of the plant started in 2018 and is progressing as per the plan. She also said the company will commence trial production after three months adding full production will start by the first quarter of 2020.

Salamawit Degefo, a staff who is attending managerial training at kingdom project, on her part said that for the first phase project, Kingdom is targeting annual production of 5,000 tons of high-grade linen yarns for export. It is predicted that the government will earn revenue of 45 million USD in the process. Upon the formal commencement of the first phase production, the company will create 1000 jobs for the locals. By the final phase when it goes fully operational, Kingdom is expecting to have 4000 employees. The construction is set to be completed in three phases.

The company, which is being built with a total investment of 200 million USD, covers an area of 32 hectares. It will also have an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons of high-grade wet-spun linen yarn. Kingdom has invested 70 million USD in the first phase project which covers 12 hectares.

The company claims to hold 10 percent of the global linen yarn market and accounts for 50 percent shares of linen yarn export to high-end markets, Chan said. Kingdom is to be the one using 100 percent brand new and industry-leading equipment. All equipment was directly purchased from China and Italy.

Upon completion, Adama factory will be the best of all five factories kingdom owns globally by then, better than the ones in China at present, Chan noted. Chan also noted that power shortage have been the major challenge it faced in undertaking its activities.
