Int’l foundation to install 11 hospitals, a training institute in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA— The Board of AL Basar International Foundation (BIF), a leading global non-profit organization working in the field of prevention of blindness has decided to install 11 eye specialty hospitals in all the nine states and two city administrations of Ethiopia.

The foundation will also establish a training institute to feed the hospitals producing eye specialists and research findings to hospitals, AL Basar Foundation Ethiopia Director Yasin Rajue told The Ethiopian Herald .

Yasin said that the foundation has already received promissory letters of nine states approved by the Office of the Prime Minister and Ministry of Health to get the land for the hospitals. “It has allocated 6 billion Birr and slotted some 10 to 15 years for the construction of the hospitals.”

The Director who is also Founder of the Al Nejash P.L.C (Tour, Development and Promotion) said that the foundation has strong commitment to support the health sector of the country particularly to contain blindness. The hospitals will be prime hospitals for hospital tourism.

AL Nejash has also set to construct Doctoral University in the town of Wukro, close to the historical place of Negash in Tigray State at the cost of 5 million US Dollar, he further said.

The foundation has been working in many parts of the world including Ethiopia treating fellows in the form of campaigns, training and skill transfer, according to the Director. It has 29 hospitals across the world, he added.

Al Nejash P.L.C on its part is working to promote tourism, people-to-people integration and development. Over 1,000 Eritreans, 250 Sudanese and 220 representatives of nation, nationalities have visited Negash, the symbol of peace and social cohesion starting from ancient period, according to him.
