Cardiac Center to collect donation via SMS

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia Cardiac Center in cooperation with Ethio Telecom is to launch a short text message service at 6710 soon as part of the Center’s fund raising scheme.

Center’s Medical Director Dr. Helen Befikadu told The Ethiopian Herald that the scheme would curb challenges being faced owing to lack of basic devises. “We have no large devices like CT-scan and radiography which are dearly important to our life-saving services.”

Thus, the SMS will allow the citizenry and other individuals alike to participate in the fund raising scheme. She said around 6,000 patients are in their waiting list while the Center is unable to perform with full capacity due to constraints of equipment and finance.

Urging Ethiopians at home and abroad to participate in the noble fund raiser scheme, Helen made clear the fact that the Center has adequate number of physicians who have been performing efficient cardiac surgery. It is financial constraint the limits the capacity, she underscored.

“We performed over 4,994 successful cardiac surgeries so far.” The minimum contribution is one Birr, it was learnt. The Center has been established thirty years ago, and offered services for over a decade now.
