U.S expresses solidarity with Ethiopia in green programs

 ADDIS ABABA- Embassy of the United States of America to Ethiopia said that the country is stand together with the people and government of Ethiopia for the realization of latter’s greenery programs.

In the statement the Embassy exclusively sent to The Ethiopian Herald, it was stated that US soldiers participating in the military exercise Justified Accord,
American Corner students, the U.S community and partners throughout the country participated in Ethiopia’s National Green Legacy.

According to the Embassy, taking part in planting trees demonstrates U.S’s solidarity with the people of Ethiopia and its commitment to be responsible inhabitants of Ethiopia and the planet.

In addition to its active reforestation activities here in Addis, the U.S Embassy is also working with Orphans and Girls Association to reforest places in Bacho Woreda near Tulu Bolo town of South West Shewa Zone of Oromia State.

The Embassy is also working to establish a nursery to raise 200,000 tree and fruit seedlings for reforestation and to create job opportunities for the youth.

The U.S brought in experts such as Dr. Melinda Laituri from the University of Colorado to provide assistance for Ethiopia’s ecological drives. According to the Embassy, Dr. Laituri recommended the reforestation of portions of the Addis Ababa urban watershed and protect key upstream protected zones like Gulele Botanic Gardens.
