Mayor lays cornerstone for “Window of Africa Park”

-Contactor vows to drive Addis’ tourist friendly ambition

ADDIS ABABA –Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abiebie launched yesterday the construction of the “Window of Africa Grand City Park” that aims to showcase Africa’s diverse cultures, heritages and identities and heighten the metropolis’ attractiveness.

Speaking at the occasion, the mayor stated that the park is unique in the city owing to its size, complexity, and containing a lot of things together. It helps the city to become internationally competitive and galvanize its continental roles as the people of Africa will see their identities in a single place.

The project rested on over 84 hectares of land and consisted of an African museum, and the African getaway, which is helpful for tourists in extending their duration in the city. Upon completion of the project, Ethiopia will amass a sizable amount of forex from tourists and showcase the world its ability to accomplish a project of any size and complexity within the specified schedule, budget, and quality.

Addis Ababa Mega Projects Office CEO, Debo Tunka on his part said that owing to its vastness and complexity, the project requires a lot of resources. The project will be carried out in various phases whilst the first phase will consume about a year-and-half. The CEO further noted that some 75 % of the land that will be developed in the first phase is meant to park, while the remaining 25 % is used for tourists’ recreational activities.

The first phase of the project consisted of greenery areas, modern children’s playing yards, running route, recreational space, and the like. Wei Qiungyu, General Manager of the China First Highway Engineering Company, the contractor of the first phase construction, promised the timely completion of the project with supreme quality level.

The company also vowed to execute the project in accordance with corporate responsibility and to add some value to Addis’s ambition of becoming a more tourist friendly city. “This project is the other landmark of the city and our robust technological capability and technological advancement will enable us to accomplish the project in ultimate quality level.”
