Ethiopia, Brazil ties: Historic relations

The majority of world nations have now come up with a range of social, economic and political acquaintances cognizant of the fact that it is high time for building resilient bilateral and/or multilateral relations for a more competitive world. For instance, Ethiopia and Brazil have strong bilateral ties since long back.

And the latter’s Foreign Minister’s visit to Ethiopia this time has given meaning beyond reestablishing and reviving an age-old bilateral relations between the two countries. Such a feasible opportunity would open doors to discuss a range of political and economic cooperation concerns of Brazil and Ethiopia as they have a lot in common.

It is quite clear that when states recognize one another as sovereign states and agree to diplomatic relations, they strengthen a bilateral relationship. They will then exchange diplomatic agents such as ambassadors to facilitate conditions to work together and buttress cooperation.

The visit of Brazil’s Foreign Minister is also a doable step to solidify ties between Ethiopia and Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) in a bid to further open chances to use the offers of the New Development Bank (NDB), which is a multilateral development bank established by BRICS with the purpose of mobilizing resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in emerging markets and developing countries (EMDCs).

Brazil has also shown keen interest to beef up shared value with African these days as the latter has been a priority for it to scale up partnership and cooperation. As to Brazilian ambassador to Ethiopia, development cooperation is an essential axis of Brazil’s Foreign policy with Africa and the country is desirous to foster partnership in agriculture, health and other frontiers.

Ethiopia and Brazil have enjoyed warm relations and shared a range of common positions in international organizations like at the United Nations. The exchange of high-level visits between Brazil and Ethiopia has also been frequent, which has contributed a lot to the intensification of bilateral discourse and cooperation in areas such as agriculture, science and technology, social development, education, among others,

As learnt from one of the BRICS founders, Brazil, they are working to effectively put in place strong mandate and potential to contribute a great deal to global growth and development. Officials of the two countries are expected to discuss bilateral and multilateral matters and common concerns. Ethiopia is all the time determined to further cement South-South cooperation that highly attracts reasonable representation in international political and financial institutions.

BRICS has been the greatest development bloc, indeed. Moreover, it is recently stated that the BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Relations recently exchanged views on major global and regional trends and issues. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the framework of BRICS cooperation under the three pillars of political and security, economic and financial, and cultural and people-to-people cooperation upholding equality, solidarity, openness, inclusiveness, mutual respect and so on.

Ethiopia and Brazil have thus boost bilateral ties with a view to promoting cooperation based on the spirit of solidarity, mutual respect, justice and equality, following South-South fashion. All in all, what Brazil has been doing is an exemplary move to get the world a fairer and balanced one. Hence, the ideology of these great countries has to be well enjoyed by developing; that is why it is said from the outset the visit of Brazil’s foreign affairs minister is beyond pronouncing Ethio-Brazil bilateral ties. Yes, entertaining a win-win approach in due course of carrying out relations should be underlined as both parties have all along been profitable.
