Indian Ambassador calls upon Ethiopians to practice Yoga

ADDIS ABABA — Since Yoga has immense potential for leading the global wellness and health industry, it strengthens the people to people relations around the world. Ethiopians will benefit from practice of Yoga as it is a holistic approach for preventive healthcare, and for better management of health, Indian Ambassador to Ethiopia told The Ethiopian Herald.

Ambassador Anurag Srivastava said people in this modern life aspire to lead a healthy life free from tensions, diseases and sickness. By practicing Yoga, one can address the challenges of modern life, and attain peace, harmony and a balanced life, he noted. 

According to the ambassador, since the first international day of Yoga celebrated here in Ethiopia in 2015, the interest and participation of the people have been growing exponentially from year to year. In the 2015, there were only a few hundred people;but now, we expect more than a thousand people in a celebration to be held this year on June 22at Skylight Hotel, he added.

“We have a local Yoga ecosystem in this country led by Ethiopian teachers. The legendary Ethiopian runner Haile Gebre-Sillasie is an active participant and he is an ambassador for Yoga in this country.”

As to him, it is not just only about celebrating a particular day, but it is about getting together, practicing Yoga, encouraging others to learn about it, and spreading awareness about its benefits.
