Chinese team starts exploration, design works for Beautifying Sheger

ADDIS ABABA – A Chinese technical team has started site exploration and design works as a preliminary task to develop a 12-kilometer of Beautifying Sheger project, the country’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Tan Jian told The Ethiopian Herald.

The Chinese government has agreed to support the project as Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, visited the China Urban Construction Design and Research Institute on the margins of the Belt and Road Forum.

Of a 56-km project, the Chinese government will develop 12 kilometer that includes a construction of a central square, the Ambassador said.

As the project has objectives of ensuring the vision of Addis Ababa to be cleaner and greener and changing the livelihood of its residents as well as reviving the city’s economy and boosting urban tourism and investment, China will continue lending hands to its realizations, he reaffirmed his country’s commitment.

Ambassador Tan further said, “As stated by PM’s Office, I believe that it suffices to say the project will make the city to live up to its name as the equivalent of Addis Ababa meaning New Flower.

Beautifying Sheger Project is a three-year initiative announced by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed. The project will run along the rivers of Addis Ababa, developing green spaces starting from Entoto to Akaki alongside two rivers, totally 56 km river streams, until they reach Akaki waste water treatment plant, it was learnt.
