Diaspora show keen interest in investing homeland

ADDIS ABABA –The members of Ethiopian Diaspora across the world are returning to home in droves and showing keen interest in investing and supporting the nation building process following Prime Minster Dr. Abiy Ahmed’s sweeping reforms, Ethiopian Diaspora Association announced.

According to the Association Chief Executive Abrham Suim, some members of the Diaspora have been actively engaging in working with Ethiopian missions abroad and participating in a wide- ranging developmental activities never than before.

“Apart from expressing their love and devotion for the country, the Diaspora are also promoting the country’s cultural values and positive image as well.” He added
“Since its establishment, the association has been exerting efforts to create conducive environment for returning Diaspora that are engaged in investment and trade through the country’s viable policy that gives priority for the Diaspora.” He noted
More than ever, the association is making practical efforts to exploit the potential of the diaspora following procedures and legal frameworks that enable them to easily engage in trade and investment, he said.

For his part the Association Chairperson Edris Mohamed told The Ethiopian Herald that apart from actively involving in various developmental endeavors of homeland, a larger number of Ethiopian diaspora have been fulfilling their promises to donate ‘a dollar a day’ for supporting development works ever since the establishment of Diaspora Trust Fund, Ethiopian Diaspora
He also indicated that following Prime Minster Dr. Abiy Ahmed’s recent official visit to Europe, the motivation and vibration to participate in the trust fund by the Ethiopian Diaspora in USA has also been repeated there.
“Though Ethiopian Diaspora live and work abroad, their hearts and minds are here as they want to see prosperous Ethiopia soon. And the trust fund has made it possible for them to deliver their share in reaching out for those in need,” he said.

“Ethiopian Diaspora have been actively participating through a trust fund Swift account that was officially launched through commercial bank of Ethiopia three months ago”
As to him, for the successful distribution of the trust fund, Dr. Abiy has selectively hand-picked the trust fund’s guardians who are dignified and trustworthy Ethiopians.
And so far, the initiative by the Diaspora is so impressive while recently the same account has been launched in Europe, he noted.

“Consequently, Ethiopian born Diasporas across the world have been asking in what way they could contribute more than ever before having heard the call of the Premier to support the development of the homeland,” Endris said.

The diaspora is an extensive mix of native and foreign born Ethiopians estimated more than three million in number are living and working abroad.
