Turning Africa’s horn into its arms

BY ALEM HAILU

A gigantic dam is born

In the backwater Africa’s horn

For long that was war-torn.

A grand dam is born

In the avenue of

Affluence, steps, pushing,

The shunned Africans ahead

To penetrate the global market,

Hot red,“The only we!”

For long that fed.

Of course, Abay dam heralded

Equitable utilization of resource

On hypocrites debarring a chance

In favor of colonial pets

To tip the power balance.

Women’s cooking drudgery

And factories, students

Power hunger have become

Behind Ethiopians’ back left history.

Thanks to those who genuinely

Espouse all-embracing growth.

On the development scene

Left behind, lagging, Africans

Are coming forth.

By the covetous,

Perceptually sick,

This and that trick

That reached its peak

To turn Ethiopia weak

Have gone up in smoke

‘Cause Ethiopia

Beefing up its muscle

Now is hard & black rock.

Unleashing natural wealth

Ethiopia is

Turning Africa’s horn

To Africa’s arm

On lower riparian countries

With no significant harm;

The anxious could watch

The unfolding calm.

Hereafter, when it comes

To self-growth

Ethiopia to the marginalized

Is trendsetter.

Old habits are

Die hard

“Only we

Colonial legacy

Beating a drum of war

…”

Ethiopia & global community today

Doesn’t understand.

So for a joint regional growth

Let us join a hand,

A common growth

For emulation that is worth.
