First Ethiopia-Indonesian young entrepreneurs’ forum kicks off

ADDIS ABABA— The first ever Ethiopia-Indonesia Young Entrepreneurs Forum kicked off in Addis Ababa last week on the premises of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia.

The forum which was held under the theme “The Growing Trend of Start-Up Businesses” was aimed at increasing communications and networking among the Ethiopian and Indonesian young entrepreneurs.

During the launching event, Indonesian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti and the African Union Al Busyra Basnur stressed that the objectives of the forum are strengthening relationship between Ethiopian and Indonesian millennials, enhancing the role of the young generation for the better and stronger Ethiopia-Indonesia cooperative especially in the economic sphere.

He further said that it was aimed at facilitating new ideas innovation and proposition as well as expanding the positive contribution from the young generation of both countries. “The forum will be organized annually.”

The International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that the global youth unemployment rate was about 13.1 per cent in 2016 up from 12.9 in the previous year. And 90 percent of the unemployed youth are living in Africa.

“Currently, the employed young people in the world earn less than US$ 1.25 a day.”

The forum was attended by over 200 young entrepreneurs from both countries.
