Reinforcing the historic Ethio-U.S. diplomatic relations

Ethiopia and the United States have maintained strong diplomatic relations since 1903. The two countries shares long-standing and strong partnership based on mutual interests in promoting peace, stability and economic cooperation bilaterally and working together in maintaining regional peace and security.

The relation between Ethiopia and the U.S. remains among the long traditional and historic ties that existed for over 120 years. It is among the oldest diplomatic relations between countries. Both countries remain amiable and strong partners for each-other, though it is considerable to experience some ups and downs during their relations. Still, Ethio-U.S’ relation is among the sustainable and stable diplomatic relation between the two independent countries.

With an objective of reinforcing and enhancing this traditional diplomatic relations of Ethiopia and the U.S., on Tuesday this week, U.S. State Department Secretary, Antony J. Blinken arrived in Addis Ababa for an official visit. The State Secretary, during his stay in Addis Ababa, met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D), Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen, African Union Commission Commissioner, Moussa Faki Mahamat and held discussions on bilateral, regional and international matters with officials in Addis Ababa.

Secretary Blinken’s visit to Ethiopia and the fruitful discussions with the Ethiopian Government is expected to take the diplomatic relations and the partnership between the two countries to new heights.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed welcomed, U.S. Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken and discussed on various issues on Wednesday 15 March 2023, at the office of the Prime Minister here in Addis Ababa.

The discussion between PM Abiy and the Secretary Blinken focused on domestic, regional and bilateral issues of mutual concern. The two sides also discussed on matters of enhancing the diplomatic relations of the two countries and announced their commitment to enhance the partnership between Ethiopia and the United States.

They are shown walking and talking with sunny face. They are walking forward, similarly talking to forward the diplomatic ties of their respective countries. This sunny face, warm farewell, talking with such familiarity was following the conclusion of the visit and that is an indication of fruitful and productive discussions between the two parties.
