Ethiopia elected as Vice President of 74th Session of UN General Assembly

ADDIS ABABA – Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Ethiopia’s election as Vice President of 74th Session of General Assembly showcases its growing engagement in multilateral diplomacy.

Ministry Spokesperson Nebeyat Getachew told The Ethiopian Herald that the country has been elected to as Vice President of the 74th Session of the General Assembly by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

“This would further enhance Ethiopia’s image in multilateral diplomacy and its visibility in international diplomacy.”

Nigeria was elected as President, assuming office from September 2019, according to the Permanent Mission of Ethiopia to the UN.

Cabo Verde, Congo, Tunisia and Zimbabwe were also elected Vice Presidents by the 193-member General Assembly, one of UN’s highest policy-making bodies.

The General Assembly is one of the six main organs of the United Nations, the only one in which all Member States have equal representation -‘one nation, one vote.’

All Member States of the UN are represented in this unique forum to discuss and work together on a wide array of international issues

 covered by the UN Charter, such as development, peace and security, international law, etc. In September, all the Members meet in the General Assembly Hall in New York for the annual General Assembly session.
