Council urges Muslims to support needy during Eid al-Fitr

– Celebration so unique as the Muslim community forge unison

 ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council called on the Muslim faithful to uphold the support and empathy they have shown for the needy during Ramadan while observing Eid al-Fitr (festival of breaking of the fast).

In a message he delivered in connection with the holiday, Supreme Council Ulema Chairperson Mufti Haji Omar Idris has urged the faithful to observe Eid al-Fitr by maintaining support to the needy.

The good deeds that have been exercised during Ramadan need to be eternalized in to Muslims’ personality and in their day to day lives, Mufti Omar stressed.

The chairperson said the faithful should give Zakat al-Fitr (charity given to the poor at the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan)

 to enable the needy to celebrate the holiday along with the rest of Muslims.

According to him, this year’s Eid is so special as the Muslim community come forward in unison ever before thanks to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s meticulous leadership in encouraging the Islamic leadership to solve differences through consultation.

Lauding government’s firm stance to keep the Muslim unity and non- interference in religious matters, the Mufti called on the faithful to make a meaningful contribution for the peace and development of Ethiopia.

The chairperson also urged the faithful to enhance solidarity by attending Eid prayer at Addis Ababa Stadium, a place the event takes place at national level.
