In his first meeting with members of diplomatic mission residing in Addis Ababa yesterday, Foreign Minister Gedu Andargachaw said that the ongoing political and economic reform is playing a multiplier effect on peace and security enhancement, economic development and integration of the horn. “We stand firm as ever in the realization of vision 2063.”

The current rapprochement between Ethiopia and Eritrea has put an end to the two decades long hostility and state of no war no-peace between two neighboring countries. “We believe this will be one of the major steps in creating a strong region.” he underlined. Foreign Minister Gedu pointed out that the release of political prisoners and opening up of the political space to opposition groups is a new approach for inclusive process of democratization.

Reform measures would lead to a substantial achievement in realizing goals of democratic governance and institutionalizing is crucial for its substantiality, he stated. Gedu also noted that the reform focused on how best to transform the economy giving more space to the private sector and expediting creative schemes.

“The existing solid relationship between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic community has been constructive in promoting mutual benefits and elevated to a high level that would match the new era.”
