ADDIS ABABA- Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF)as part of its reform downsized its six Commands into four and assigning new Commanders, newly appointed Special Missions Commander Lieutenant General Mola Hailemariam announced yesterday.
Commands are organized as Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western, And Special Missions Command is also established.
Works have begun to reorganize the army into Navy Force, Air Force, Ground Force and Special missions’ Force. It is part of the serious reforms the army is undertaking, said Lt. General Mola.
“We are building professional, well equipped, trained, organized army. thiis an effort to upgrade the overall capacity of the army”, he said.
According to the Lt. General the country has well disciplined army. Meanwhile, punitive measures have been taken against troops who went to Prime Minister Office. An act labeled as illegal and unconstitutional, 66 troops stood trial in Military Court and others handed disciplinary measures, Lt. General Mola added.
The military is trying to restore stability in conflict ridden areas without using force. It is carefully dealing with conflicts to protect the civilians and constitutional order, it was reported.
