ADDIS ABABA – The U.S. Embassy in partnership with the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) organized a half-day workshop for members of political parties with the aim to develop good communication culture during election processes. In his remarks at the workshop, U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Michael Raynor said that good communication is vital to create consensus between and among parties.

He encouraged the participants to focus on their role and, to think how they can transfer Ethiopia into better direction. “Whether your party wins or lose the election, the core value of every contending party should be promoting the peace and stability of the nation.” In an exclusive interview with The Ethiopian Herald, Ethiopian Citizens Party for Social Justice (ECPSJ) Secretary, Abebe Akalu on his part said that the workshop has a crucial role in nurturing good communication skills to have smooth and democratic election process.

According to him, the training is an eye opener to political parties in many ways for it enables some competing parties to develop good communication skills during election processes. “Some political parties consider democracy as something which is made abroad and imported in times of election which is wrong. The fate of Ethiopia is in the hands of Ethiopians not in others. All political parties, therefore, should abide by the values of democracy and develop the concept of civility and integrity.”
