ADDIS ABABA- Ministry of Health confirmed that Ethiopia is on the right track to ensure Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Taking part at the 72nd World Health Assembly held in Geneva, Health Minster, Dr. Amir Aman tweeted that the nation’s immunization performance has reached 25 million children in 2017 which is 72 percent of the plan. “Our belief on Primary Health Care is not only a vehicle for Universal Health Care but also the base and foundation to health system and delivery,” he said.

According to him, national contraceptive prevalence rate has increased from eight to 36 percent within 16 years. In 2017, over six million women had used modern contraceptives that averted around two million unintended pregnancies, 549,000 unsafe abortions and over five thousands deaths. The nation is working with stakeholders to address gaps that are identified in the area. As Dr. Amir twitted, he had a fruitful discussion with Siemens Health to open an ultrasound assembly manufacture in Ethiopia and build the capacity of health professionals in the area.
