 Receiving GIFA for financial reform

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has been awarded as the 2022 Laureate of the Global Islamic Finance Award (GIFA) for efforts made in reforming Ethiopia’s finance sector. “Ethiopia has been undertaking vast financial sector reforms which are receiving global recognition. Honored to receive this award for the miles we are going as a nation to make the sector inclusive,” Abiy twitted after the award ceremony held last Wednesday in Djibouti.

GIFA is a prestigious label of excellence that recognizes governments, institutions and individuals who have made outstanding achievements in their respective fields, contributing to the sustainability of Islamic banking and finance as a viable system within the global international financial architecture.

Mobilizing finance for national cause

The Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Finance, in collaboration with the Ethiopian Diaspora Agency and Ethiopian missions worldwide, launched a month-long campaign to mobilize resources for national causes. During the virtual conference held on September 13, issues observed last year about transaction channels and related accounts were addressed with communication held between the Ministries of Finance, Foreign Affairs, and the Diaspora Agency.

On the conference, MoFA State Minister Birtukan Ayano urged cluster coordinator missions and all missions to strengthen cooperation with Ethiopians, people of Ethiopian origin, and friends of Ethiopia by leveraging technology and implementing creative and user-friendly mechanisms to achieve allocated resource mobilization.

Promoting the world’s flavorsome coffee

The Ethiopian embassy in Israel has promoted Ethiopia’s coffee by organizing a three-day long coffee fair, dubbed: “The Israel Coffee Fest 2022” that began on Wednesday in association with the fair’s organizers and the Ethiopian Coffee Exporters’ Association. It is to be recalled that Ethiopia had secured 1.4 billion USD in 2021/22 fiscal year which is the highest record in the history of the country.

Expressing condolence to Queen Elizabeth II

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonnen expressed his personal deep sorrow at the death of the British monarch last Wednesday, signing the book of condolences for Queen Elizabeth II, which was opened at the British Embassy in Ethiopia.

On September 9, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed also extended his condolences to the British Royal Family, the Government and the people of Great Britain. “On behalf of the Government and people of Ethiopia, I extend deepest condolences to the British Royal Family, the Government and the people of Great Britain on the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II,” Abiy twitted following the news that disseminated across the world about the death of Queen Elizabeth II who has passed away at the age of 96.
