HARAR– The value of acknowledging diversity is instrumental in fostering development and progress of the country as a generation that undermines multiplicity cannot trek a step forward, Peace Minister said.
Chairing the third panel discussion organized by the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) in Harar recently, the Minister Binalf Andualem stated that respecting diversity would pave a rosy future for Ethiopia which is a multicultural and multilingual nation. “The younger generation needs to be made aware of their history so that we can have a civilized, democratic and peaceful nation.”
As to him, the generation should know their history and take the past glory as a spring board to build a peaceful and prosperous country with the active participation of people from diverse ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds. “Ethiopians are owners of various shared values passed from generation to generation for many centuries,” the Minister said, adding that the role of elders is crucial in preserving common national values that have been preserved for centuries.
Mentioning the acts of Gamo elders in discharging responsibilities, Binalf noted that they are truly fathers of peace and the ones from whom citizens can draw important lessons. Meticulous efforts are underway to keep entrenched values that are the foundation of the vision of building a peaceful and prosperous Ethiopia is rested on.
“Since many of the pressing challenges stem from elites, they have to work to be part of the solution as the role of elites is immense in the process of positively shaping the generation.”
