Youth urged to replicate patriots’ victory in sustaining reform

ADDIS ABABA– The present generation should repeat the victory of forefathers and foremothers over Fascist forces in sustaining the ongoing broad-based reforms and shunning political extremism and narrow nationalism, Ethiopian Patriots Association President Lij Daniel Jote said.

Speaking to The Ethiopian Herald in connection of the 78th Anniversary of Patriots’ Victory Day, the President said that the youth need to be motivated by the patriots’ commitment and the sacrifice they made for the independence of the nation to stand for public good and fight anti-peace elements.

Lij Daniel stated that the young generation should be inspired by the commitment and sacrifice the patriots paid to repel invaders to

stand for the renaissance of the country and make active participation in the implementation of the existing political and economic changes.

“The youth need to shun individualistic attitudes and exercise civility in the view to overcoming the pressing problems the country has been encountering,” he said, adding that fighting the attempts of destructive forces is so crucial to sustain the peace and development of the country.

The President pointed out that the victory of Ethiopian patriots over Fascist Italy forces is an inspiration for the young generation and taught a lesson that the equal participation of people with diverse ethnic and religious groups is key towards nation building.

He said that commemorating the sacrifice made by patriots encourages today’s generation to repeat similar victory over poverty and overcome the tenacious challenges the country has been facing. The fierce struggle forefathers and foremothers have shown against Fascist occupation is also a lesson for the young to make committed efforts to attain common goals.

“Ethiopia’s victory over Fascism inspired many African countries under the yoke of colonization to fight for their independence,” Lij Daniel noted, adding that the youth have the responsibility to aware the international community about the noble sacrifices Ethiopian patriots paid for freedom.

Patriots’ Victory Day commemorates the end of the Italian occupation on May 5, 1941 and the 78th Anniversary of the Day was marked on last Sunday in the presence of patriots, higher-level government officials, members of the diplomatic corps.
