ADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) commenced its second national electrification program with a theme: Lighting for all. Ethiopia has set a target to meet its entire electric power demand by 2025.
During an Eastern Africa Energy summit yesterday, Dr. Seleshi Bekele Ministry of Water, Irrigation, and Energy (MOWIE) said six billion USD is required to meet 100 percent electrification across the country by 2025.
He also added that National Electrification Program (NEP) updates the country electrification objectives to reflect new PPP business modalities and technology in the sectors such as smart-grid technology as well as the introduction of digital monitoring and evaluation platform to improve the reach, scale, and reliability of electricity access in Ethiopia.
Shifarew Telila CEO, Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) noted that Ethiopia has the plan to make substantial Purchasing Power Party (PPP) investment in the transmission line, distribution and substation expansion to meet the power demands of the nations and large commercials and industrial applications.
