ADDIS ABABA—Ministry of Health announced that it has planned to vaccinate more than 22 million citizens by 2021 and preparations are underway to vaccinate 2.2 million citizens within the next 15 days.

Ministry of Health COVID-19 Response Task force coordinator Mizan Kiros (MD) told the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) that the Ministry has been taking various measures to timely implement the vaccination through prioritizing segments of the society. This means the vaccination is first given to those who are most vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“A large number of gatherings are now postponed and even canceled following the rising number of new Covid-19 cases in the country.”

As of yesterday, the number of Covid-19 severe cases is above 970 which surpass country’s health institutions’ capacity to host Covid-19 severe cases i.e 650 patients.

He further noted that prevention is the only mechanism to manage the growing Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
