Demeke Mekonnen receives SaudiArabiai’s Ambassador to Ethiopia this week
H.E. Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Ethiopia, H.E. Sami Jamil Abdullahi, at his office to discuss issues of mutual concern.
Speaking about the situation in the Tigray region, the Minister said the government has been busy in rebuilding damaged infrastructure, rehabilitating IDPs, and delivering humanitarian assistance to affected people.
He said unfettered access was given to the media and humanitarians to operate in the region, adding that the government is investigating human rights violations and is ready to work with the African Union and other relevant bodies for further investigations.
Regarding the negotiations over the GERD, he said Ethiopia is keen to resume the negotiation under the leadership of the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo President Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi, the New Chairperson of the African Union (AU) for 2021.
Ethiopia doesn’t receive an official request for new modalities for mediation over the GERD; he said adding that questions over the future course of the negotiations will be solved through the pertinent provisions of the Declaration of Principles on GERD (DOP).
In their discussion over the Ethiopia-Sudan border dispute, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Ethiopia is ready to resolve the issue through dialogue with Sudan, once the latter withdraws its forces from Ethiopian territories.
The discussion between the two sides also covered the issue of Ethiopian migrants in Saudi Arabia, where they have underscored the importance of cooperation in repatriating Ethiopian citizens.
The two have concluded their discussion underscoring the importance of scaling up the historical ties between the two countries.
Being thankful for the genuine briefing on the current situation in Ethiopa, Ambassador Sami Jamil Abdullah for his part said that his country will work to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
Coupled with appreciating the Ethiopian government’s efforts to repatriate Ethiopians in Saudi Arabia, the Ambassador further said that the Saudi government would continue its support.
Ethiopian, Italian Ambassadors to Kenya hold discussion
• Italy confirms its supports on AU-led trilateral negotiations on GERD
Ethiopian Ambassador H.E. Ambassador Meles Alem and Italy Ambassador to Kenya Alberto Pieri have made discussion on the bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
On their discussion, Ambassador Pieri noted that Italy enjoys strategic partnership with Ethiopia, stressing that Ethiopia is beacon of stability in the Horn of Africa. The Ambassador stressed that Italy supports AU-led trilateral negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
Ambassador Jemal Beker confers with Chairman of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry
H.E. Ambassador Jemal Beker, Head of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia’s Mission in the Kingdom of Bahrain met with H.E. Mr. Sameer Nass, Chairman of Chamber of Bahrain Commerce and Industry this week and discussed a range of issues on how to strengthen trade, investment, tourism, and business between the two countries.
To this end, H.E. Ambassador Jemal Beker explained the reform Ethiopia is undertaking that creates huge opportunities for FDI through market liberalization, incentive packages, easy rules and regulations of investment, availability of a one-stop service, abundant trained skilled labors and competitive clean energy.
By the same token, H.E. Mr. Sameer Nass appreciated the presentation and said availed opportunities in various sectors such as agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, and services are of their interest to pursue in Ethiopia.
Hence, he reiterated the chamber’s commitment to work closely with their counterpart and sign the MoU exchanged during the opening ceremony of the Mission.
Finally, the two sides agreed to work hand in hand so as to strengthen the trade, investment, tourism and business relationship between the two sisterly countries and brotherly peoples.
H.E. Ambassador Hirut Zemene holds talk with Hon. Norbert Neuser
H.E. Hirut Zemene, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Belgium held a fruitful exchange of views last Wednesday with Hon. Norbert NEUSER, Member of Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament and Vice chair of the Development Committee, on the current situation in Ethiopia.
Ambassador Hirut briefed Honorable Neuser, among others, about current developments in Ethiopia including efforts underway to address the humanitarian situation in Tigray and other parts of the country as well as steps taken to enhance the reform process including the upcoming election.
They also agreed to further exchange information on various issues of common concern.
H.E. Alemayehu Tegenu holds a discussion with Vice-Rector Larisa I. Efremova of Friendship University
H.E. Alemayehu Tegenu, Ambassador Ordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to the Russian Federation met with the vice-Rector for International Affairs of the Friendship University, Larisa I. Efremova.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed the status of the MoUs signed between the Friendship University and the Ethiopian Ministry of Higher Education and Sciences, as well as the MoUs between the University, Addis Abeba Science and Technology and Gondar Universities.
They also discussed the Ethiopian Students, which are enrolled in Friendship University, and the status of the newly recruited students in collaboration with ROSATOM.
They further exchange views on academic Conferences, which the University organizes focusing on Ethiopian History, politics, and culture. In this regard, both parties outlined that conference lectures delivered on topics focusing on Ethiopia have to be based on actual research and facts on the ground.
Furthermore, the Embassy and the University agreed to work closely to ensure presentations in the conferences are factual and balanced.
