Ethiopian Ambassador briefs Canada’s Member of Parliament on current situations in Ethiopia

The meeting was requested by the Embassy to brief Hon. Garnett Genius, House of Commons, Member of Parliament on the current affairs in Ethiopia, the Law enforcement operation, rebuilding, and rehabilitation works in Tigray.

Ambassador Nasise Challi provided a brief context of the law enforcement operation, the activities being undertaken to rehabilitate and rebuild Tigray, and the commitment of the government to adhere to international principles and for the protection of civilians in the region.

Hon. Garnett Genius, in turn, expressed his appreciation for the explanation that provided important context on the genesis of the conflict and efforts of rehabilitation and rebuilding.

The Honorable Garnett also underlined that Canada is a strong development partner to Ethiopia and he will push his government to assist on humanitarian needs and involve in the rebuilding of civilian infrastructures.

He also added that he will closely follow up on the situation and will work with the Embassy in clarifying any misunderstanding.

In closing, Ambassador Nasise Challi expressed her gratitude to Hon. Garnett Genius, for the understanding, expressed her office’s willingness to work closely and urge for continuous engagement on the issue.
