The consequences of abject betrayal and bigotry

BY SOLOMON DIBABA

TPLF’s great conspiracy theory and untold betrayal on the peoples of Ethiopia was indeed a logical outcome of its long-term plan to disintegrate the united peoples of Ethiopia into banana republics that are either remotely or directly controlled by its perverted and corrupt leaders with outdated ideology, idiosyncratic and debauched mentality.

TPLF leadership was Ethiopian only in form and not in content. The peoples of Tigray who suffered from climate induced recurrent drought and maladministration deserved freedom, justice and development and not another round of war.

This organization of political fanatics used to brag and boast that there are no differences between TPLF and the peoples of Tigray but one can easily discern that they disproved their own hypothesis by fleeing in disarray to the cliffs of Kola Tembein to apparently start gorilla warfare after destroying the most needed infrastructural facilities build by loans from international financiers and donations from global partners. Undoubtedly, there is a difference between TPLF and the peoples of Tigray.

If what they claimed was true, why did they order the destruction of roads, bridges, airports, hospitals, schools?

With their slanderous lies on social media, TPLF cadres trumpeted that they will be back on power triumphantly on the 19th of February ending what they called a tactical retreat as a strategy for defeating what they called the army of Abiy and Esayas. However, within a couple of weeks of their flight to the wilderness of Tigray, fugitive leaders of TPLF have been killed in an operation by Ethiopian forces.

Earlier over the month, TPLF spokesperson Sekoture Getachew and Daniel Assefa, former Head of Tigray Finance Bureau. Zeray Asgedom, the former head of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority, and Abebe Asgedom were killed during the operation.

A couple of days back, Seyoum Mesfin who was the former minister of foreign affairs and later Ethiopia’s ambassador to China, Abay Tsehaye. Those captured reportedly included the region’s former president Abay Weldu, who was also a former chairman of the region’s ruling party. The two others killed were former Federal Affairs Minister Abay Tsehaye and ex-parliamentary chief whip Asmelash Woldeselassie,

In the meantime, Sebhat Nega − mastermind ideologue and the junta’s top leader, Kidusan Nega -Former Speaker of the Tigray regional state Council, Tewodros Hagos − Former President of Meles Leadership Academy and Head of the EFFORT Board, Abadi Zemo–Former Ethiopian Ambassador to Sudan and a member of the TPLF Junta political wing, Dr. Solomon Kidane – Former Head of Tigray Urban Development Bureau and Head of the Addis Ababa Transport Bureau, Gebremedhin Tewolde – Former Head of Tigray Trade Bureau, Woldegiorgis Desta–Former Head of Tigray Transport Bureau, Teklewoini Assefa–Former CEO of Relief Society of Tigray and Mihret Teklay-Former Legal Advisor to Tigray Council.

It is to be noted that Keria Ibrahim, the former spokesperson of the House of Federation and Dr. Addisalem Balema have surrendered themselves to the law enforcement body of the federal government.

TPLF orchestrated a wrong tactics to enforce its will on the peoples of Ethiopia over the last 27 years by employing several ill-fated strategies.

By pressurizing the youth in Tigray to flee to Sudan along with those who fled in fear of the consequences of the law enforcement measures to ultimately enlist them for a reserve army to be deployed from the North Western part of Ethiopia against the country, they engaged themselves in utter deception of the international community including the UN Systems.

All the more, TPLF organized an international misinformation magnet by deploying former diplomats from Tigray and a number of UN employees from the region to fabricate false information on social media trying to depict that the war was going on even when its leaders are in their hideouts.

The entire situation in Tigray indicates three main outstanding issues that have to be carefully considered. The first is that no person in whatever rank or situation he or she may be can scape unpunished by the law. The second point is that TPLF, right from its foundation in 1975, used the youth in Tigray for their own hunger for power using revolutionary democracy as a smokescreen for their selfish and hateful stance to balkanize the country and make it susceptible to foreign intrusions and attacks. The third aspect is related to the fact that the organization is based on vengeance and hatred for its political opponents and will do everything under the sun to destroy them.

Moreover, TPLF used the provisions of the constitution, article 39 in particular, to establish bogus liberation fronts and political organizations that it can directly command for its hidden motives of destroying the age-old social fabric and bondage among the peoples of the country.

TPLF’s attack on the Northern Command was a single element devised to weaken the country and the government by using the military commanders and the so-called Special Forces to ultimately establish another round of hate based political system that would ensure the hegemony of a single party in Ethiopia for several decades.

On the other hand, the attack was also organized as part of destabilizing the Horn of Africa to create multiple sets of obstacles for regional economic integration that would endanger TPLF’s contraband trade through arms trafficking and illicit trade in gold and rare metals and gemstones meant to enrich the political elites in the organization.

Furthermore, TPLF organized political assassination on prominent celebrities and renowned political figures as a means of sowing ethnic based civil war in the country and to ultimately pause as a peacemaker.

As stated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on several occasions, TPLF controlled the military and the security forces of the country not as such to defend the territorial integrity and peace in the country but to ultimately establish a de-facto republic by forcefully seceding from Ethiopia. This was indeed the original political goal for which TPLF was founded.

It is therefore easy to conclude that TPLF’s political strategy was not only a threat to the survival of Ethiopia as a nation but also for unity and solidarity among the nations of the African continent.

Let me take up a point here. Why did TPLF choose to face such a level of disaster while it was possible to resolve issues through a political dialogue that could have ended in a win-win political solution?

Several reasons could be cited. In the first place, TPLF wrongly decided to adapt a non-recognition policy on a legitimate and functional government. With a totally wrong and unconstitutional conception of article 39 of the constitution in isolation from the various provisions TPLF conducted an illegal regional election that was legally abrogated by the House of Federation thus deliberately isolating itself from the federal system and started a clandestine preparation for a total war against the peoples of Ethiopia.

Politics among other things involves flexibility in the context of safeguarding the unity and territorial integrity of the country but TPLF was out to destroy the federal system and the sovereignty of the peoples of Ethiopia in total disregard to the history and the political tradition.

Although TPLF repeatedly professed about the rule of law, democracy and human rights, over the last 27 years, it continued to trample with the most elementary human rights of citizens in its secret dungeons and official prisons. Hundreds and thousands of inmates were subjected to the most inhuman treatments some of which results in permanent injuries.

TPLF organized its own economic basis by confiscating public properties and by establishing more than 34 endowment companies which were administered by its officials and the proceeds of which go to the enrichment of the leadership.

Thanks to the efforts made by the armed forces and the security now the process of enforcing the rule of law has developed into a second stage of treating crime perpetrators at the courts of law. This is important because the courts are entrusted with promoting justice to ensure that the laws of the country and the constitution are duly respected and enforced.

Now that the campaign for the enforcement of the rule of law in Tigray has ended and the provisional regional administration is put in place, a huge task of relief programing, rehabilitation and development remains. This is an immense task that could not be handled by the efforts of both the federal and regional governments of Ethiopia. Once again international partners are expected to provide their support for the peoples of Tigray who need every possible support they can secure.

This is an ample opportunity in which the rest of the peoples of Ethiopia need to show their compassion and solidarity with the government and peoples of Tigray. The recent relief support provided to the peoples of Tigray by Aba Gedas and Hada Sikes is an excellent example of how the peoples of Ethiopia can provide their support to once more rehabilitate Tigray State ravaged by the heinous atrocities of TPLF
