Ministry aspires to ensurequality health service

ADDIS ABABA- Ministry of Health (MoH) said ensuring quality health service, in over 4000 health centers and 500 hospitals throughout the country, would be its priority objective.

Speaking on the 55th annual medical conference and international health and wellness exhibition Dr. Amir Aman Minister of Health said maintaining infrastructural facility is the beginning of ensuring quality the Ministry would exert its level best effort on it.

He stressed that the Ministry is working to install laboratories in every health center and would accomplish the task until the coming year.

On the other hand, Amir noted that delivering quality medical science education is given due attention. According to him there are 1500 medical students are currently studying in colleges. “We will downgrade medical schools that do not give quality medical education and we could go to the extent of shutting them down if they do not improve,” he underscored.

The Minister said his government is working on enhancing public private partnership and would also encourage and support the engagement of the private sector in order to provide health services, which are not available in the country, and reduce citizens’ overseas medical cost.

Training and other capacity building enforcements will be given for health workers in collaboration with the Ethiopian Medical Association, Amir said.

Dr. Gemechis Mamo President of the Association for his part said, quality medical service is the base for health profession and if there is no quality its damage would be worse. “The Nation has been concerned in quantity more than quality over the past decade. But all medical schools, health workers and our association need to put more effort on ensuring quality medical service,” Gemechis stressed.

He also noted that it is better to think more on how to deliver quality health care on the health institutions that currently available.

The exhibition was undertaken with the theme “Reaching out for Universal Health Coverage The Ethiopian Perspective”.
